ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Electronics Technician Maintenance II applies basic and some advanced technical knowledge to solve routine problems by interpreting manufacturers’ manuals or similar documents. Work requires familiarity with the interrelationships of circuits and judgment in planning work sequence, in selecting tools, testing instruments, and is reviewed for compliance with accepted practices. Essential job functions include installation; troubleshooting, repair; alignment; and operation of typical electronic equipment such as microwave radio systems, computers, data systems, telemetry, and satellite communication systems. This technician works under immediate supervision and achieves technical guidance, as required, from a supervisor or higher-level technician. This technician may assist higher-level technicians in accomplishing modifications as well as identifying problems requiring further investigation. May be required to assist senior level technicians in performing software adaptations and computer problem solving and repair or perform minor actions without higher-level assistance. May be required to provide guidance, training, and functional supervision to lower-level technicians. Required to perform with limited instructions or supervision. Must possess a general knowledge of electronic component characteristics to aid in the selection of replacement components and devices. Knowledge of other trades such as the mechanical skills necessary to repair and modify servo systems, pedestal-drive systems, waveguide installations, and optics associated with laser and camera systems a plus. Must be thoroughly familiar with the operation of test instruments such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, frequency measuring equipment, and other related measurement instruments.

GENERAL DUTIES: The Electronics Technician, Maintenance maintains, repairs, troubleshoots, modifies and installs various types of electronic equipment and related devices such as electronic transmitting and receiving equipment (e.g., radar, radio, television, telecommunication, sonar, laser, electro-optics, infrared, telemetry, and communications systems, and navigational aids); personal and main frame computers and terminals, industrial, medical, measuring, and controlling equipment; and industrial robotic devices. The successful incumbent applies technical knowledge of electronics principles in determining equipment malfunctions, and applies skill in restoring equipment operation, evaluates performance and reliability of prototype or production mode, and recommends changes in circuitry or installation specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance. Should be proficient in the operation and maintenance of the Pressure Data Acquisition Systems and operation and maintenance of Digital High Speed Video Cameras highly desired. Experience with VALTS fragment data collection system, as well as Flash X-Ray Units related to gun and warhead testing, but training will be provided. Should possess a good understanding of arena setup and testing.

This position performs operations and maintenance of the C-7 Telemetry System and C-7 Video Production System used to support Eglin AFB test missions and to accomplish maintenance and mission support objectives, troubleshooting, repair, and modification of assigned systems/equipment at Test Site C-7, on Range C-72 at Eglin, AFB. Additional responsibilities include administrative, logistic, and quality control duties. Knowledge of the C-7 Video Tracker Data reduction system is Highly Desired. Required to assist in planning and implementing complex electronic assignments utilizing general instructions from the supervisor or from the engineering staff.

OTHER DUTIES: Duties will include the operation and maintenance of the C7A Launchpad Environmental Conditioning Chambers, using local and remote-control systems, recorders, timing systems, computers, and other data collection equipment. Other duties will require the ability to modify and install computer program changes to meet mission requirements, work with engineering during system modifications, and have a thorough knowledge of computer utilization. Additional duties may be assigned to support contract/mission support requirements in job related areas such as PIPR, Security and Safety, TMDE, HAZMAT, etc. as required. Will be used through cross-utilization to support other systems in the Mission Support Department as required. Will be required to work overtime, and weekends as needed. Required to use and wear appropriate safety equipment.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be a technical or service school graduate in electronics with two years’ experience as an Electronic Technician.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Thorough knowledge of electronic troubleshooting, repair, installation, and operation of the C-7 Telemetry System and associated equipment. Must have thorough knowledge of components and system characteristics to enable the selection of replacement parts to maintain remote systems, encoders, power source, computer controls. Working knowledge of camera configurations is a plus. Requires manual dexterity necessary to perform repairs and modifications to small assemblies such as integrated circuit boards. Will be required to coordinate scheduled maintenance, task requirements, and assist engineering with the development and design of operational improvements. Knowledge of computer operations and ability to utilize specialized software to accomplish mission’s data acquisition is required. Knowledge of the C-7 Video Production System is a plus.

Candidate must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Supports E-OMS operational objectives; observes company Quality, Safety, Environmental, Security and Administrative policies. Supports Process Improvement.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: May perform work assignments in a temperature and humidity-controlled environment. Some tasks and assignments such as the installation; operation; and maintenance of mobile systems, aircraft systems, or range instrumentation will require work performance in outside environments in heat or cold with exposure to the conditions typical of various work locations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Required to climb, bend, stoop, lift up to 50 pounds, pull, or carry heavy items.
